In the electrical circuit shown, points B and C are earthed . Find the potentials of points A and D .

Text Solution

As B and C are earthed.
`V_(B) = V_(C ) = 0`
`implies V_(B) -V_(C ) = 0`
`implies` Current through `'10 Omega '` is zero.
Using KVl in closed loop ABCDEFA,
`- 4 I + 0-5i-1 xx I + 10 = 0`
`implies I = 1 A`
Now , `V_(A)-V_(B)= 4i = 4V implies V_(A) = 4V`
Also,` V_(C )-V_(D) = 5iimplies V_(D)= - 5V`
