Though the drift velocity of electron responsible for current in a conductor under ordinary circumstances is very small, light in a room turn on immediately after the switch is closed. Explain why and how?

Glowing of the bulb is related to setting up of E field inside the conductor which starts the closed loop current inside the conductor by making the electrons drift in one direction . It is not that when the individual electron form the switch will reach the bulb , then only it will glow ! Rather the moment the circulation of electrons starts ( with a speed of light `= 3 xx 10^(8) m//s`). the bulb glows.

Though the drift velocity of electorn responsible for current in a conductorn under ordinary circumstances is very small, light in a room turn on immediately after the swithc is closed, Explain why and how?

A :The drift velocity of electrons in a conductor is very small still current in a conductor is establised almost instantaneously on closing the switch. R: Electric field in the condutor sets up with speed of light.

The drift velocity of electrons in a conducting wire is of the order of 1 mm/s, yet the bulb glows very quickly after the switch is put on beause

Explain the term 'drift velocity' of electrons in a conductor. Hence obtain the expression for the current through a conductor in terms of 'drift velocity'.
