A cell of emf `epsi` and internal resistance r is connected across a load resistance R .
(i) Find the maximum power delivered at the load ?
(ii) Draw the power (P) vs load resistance (R) graph .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Current through the load `l = (epsi)/(R + r)`
Power delivered at the load `P = l^(2) R = (epsi^(2)R)/((R+r)^(2))`
Power delivered at load in maximum , when `(dP)/(dR) = 0`
Solving above equation R = r
`P_(max) = (epsi^(2) r)/((r+r)^(2)) = (epsi^(2))/(4r)`
(ii) P versus R graph will be
