Discuss the resemblance of hydrogen with halogens.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Halogens have electronic condigureation `ns^2 np^5`, So, they have strong tendency to gain one electron to attain stable nearest noble gas configuration. Similarly, hydrogen with `1s^1` electronic condiguration has a tendency to gain one electron and form `H^(-)` ion and attain helium gas configuration.
