In cyanobacteria : The colonies and trichomes or filaments are surrounded by gelatinous sheath which often forms blooms in polluted water bodies called algal blooms.
Ex : Nostoc, Anabaena. Red Dinoflagellates like "Gonyaulax" undergo rapid multiplication and make the sea "Red" so called Red Tides.
