Primary metabolites : The metabolites have identifiable functions and play known roles in normal physiological processes are called as primary metabolites.
. Ex: Hydrogen, Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen etc.
Secondary metabolites : Metabolic products that do not have identifiable functions in the host organism are called as secondary metabolites.
Ex: Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Rubbers, Resins etc.
