Carbohydrates which reduce Fehlings's solution to red ppt of `Cu_(2) O` or Tollen's reagent to shining metallic Ag are called reducing sugars All monosaccharides (both and ketoses) and disccharides except surose are reducing sugars Thus `D-(+)` glucose `D-(+)` galactose `D-(-)` fructose `D-(+)` -maltose and `D-(+)` lactose are all reducing sugars .
