How can you differentiate between addition and condensation polymerisation ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
Addition polymerization In this types of polmerization a large number of molecules of the same or different monomers simply add to one another leading to the formation of a macromoleule Addition polmerization generally occurs among molecules containing double and triple bonds For example formation of polythene from ethene and `PAN` from acrylonitrile etc Condensation polmerization In this types of polymerization two or more bifuncational molecules undergo a series of independent condensation reactions usally with the elimination of simple molecules like water alcohol ammonia carbon dioxide hydrogen chloride etc to form a macromolecule Fro example nylon `6,6` is a condensation polymer of hexamethyendiasrnine and adipic acid formed by elimination of water molecules .
