In the figure shown, water is filled in a symmetrical container. Four pistons of equal area A are used at the four openings to keep the water in equilibrium. Now an additional force F is applied at each piston. The increase in the pressure at the centre of the container due to this addition is

A

`(F)/(A)`

B

`(2F)/(A)`

C

`(4F)/(A)`

D

`0`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

The four piston are initially in equilibrium. As additional force `F` is applied to each pistion, the pressure in fluid at each point must be increased by `(F)/(A)` so that each piston retains state of equilibrium.

Thus the increment in pressure at each point is `DeltaP = (F)/(A)`(by Pascal's law)

Figure shows water filled in a symmetrical container. Four pistons of equal area A are used at the four openings to keep the water in equilibrium. Now an additional force F is applied at each piston. The increase in the pressure at the centre of the container due to this addition is

As shown , a piston chamber pf cross section area A is filled with ideal gas. A sealed piston of mass m is right at the middle height of the cylinder at equilibrium. The friction force between the chamber wall and the piston can be ignored . The mass of the rest of the chamber is M .The atmosphere pressure is P_(0) . Now slowly pull the piston upwards , find the maximum value of M such that the chamber can be lifted off the ground. The temperature remains unchanged.

In the following figure, four beakers of different base areas contain water as shown The pressure at the bottom is maximum for the beaker

A buoy is held inside water contained in a vessel by tying it with a thread to the base of the vessel. Name the three forces that keep the buoy in equilibrium and state the direction in which each force acts.

In the figure shown, a light container is kept on a horizontal rough surface of coefficient of friction mu=(Sh)/V . A very small hole of area S is made at depth 'h'. Water of volume 'V' is filled in the container. The friction is not sufficient to keep the container at rest. The acceleration of the container initially is

A long cylindrical tank of cross-sectional area 0.5m^(2) is filled with water. It has a small hole at a height 50cm from the bottom. A movable piston of cross-sectional area almost equal to 0.5m^(2) is fitted on the top of the tank such that it can slide in the tank freely. A load of 20 kg is applied on the top of the water by piston, as shown in the figure. Calculate the speed of the water jet with which it hits the surface when piston is 1m above the bottom. (Ignore the mass of the piston)

Consider the adjacent figure. A piston divides a cylindrical container into two equal parts. The lets part contains 1 mole of helium gas and the right part contains two moles or oxygen gas. The initial temperatures and pressures of the gases in the left chamber are T_(0) and p_(0) and the right chamber are (T_(0))/(2) and p_(0) respectively as shown in the figure. The piston as well as the walls of the container are adiabatic. After removal of the piston, gases mix homoganeously and the final pressure becomes p=(4n)/(13)p_(0) . Find the value of n.

The opening near the bottom of the vessel shown in the figure has an area A . A disc is held against the opening keep the liquid from running out. Let F_(1) be the net forces on the disc applied by liquid and air in this case. Now the disc is moved away from the opening a short distance. The liquid comes out and strikes the disc in elastically. Let F_(2) be the force exerted by the liquid in this condition. The F_(1)//F_(2) is

The opening near the bottom of the vessel shown has an area A. A disk is held against the opening to keep the liquid, from running out. It is given that net force on the disk applied by liquid and air in this case is F. Now the disc is moved away from the opening by a short distance. The liuid comes out and strikes the disk inelastically. What will be the initial force exerted by the liquid on the disk in this condition.

A cylinder fitted with movable piston contains liquid water in equilibrium with water vapour at 25°C. Which operation would result in a increase in the equilibrium vapour pressure.
