In a cell that utilises the reaction ZN(...

In a cell that utilises the reaction `ZN(s)+ 2H^(+)(aq)rightarrow Zn^(2+) (aq)+ H_(2)(g)` addtion of `H_(2)SO_(4)` to cathod compartment , will:

A

lower the E and shift equilibrium to the left.

B

lower the E and shift the equilibrium to the right

C

increase the E and shift the equilibrium to the right.

D

increase the E and shift the equilibrium to the left.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

`Zn+2H_((aq))^(+)toZn^(2+)(aq)+H_(2)(g)`
`E=E^(@)-(0.0591)/(2)log(([Zn^(2+)]pH_(2))/([H^(+)]^(2)))`
Adding `H_(2)SO_(4)` means increasing `H^(+)` and therefore `E_(cell)` will increase and reaction will shift to forward direction.
