A body of mass 2 kg makes an elastic collision with a second body at rest and continues to move in the original direction but with one fourth of its original speed. What is the mass of the second body?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
1.2

COM gives : `2v_(0)=2xx(v_(0))/(4) +mv` ...(1)
For elastic collision `v-(v_(0))/(4)=v_(0)` ...(2)
From (1) and (2) `m=1.2 kg`
