What weight of a metal of equivalent weight 12 will give `0.475 g` of its chloide?

A

`0.12 g`

B

`0.24 g`

C

`0.36 g`

D

`0.48 g`

The correct Answer is:
A

Let x be valency of metal M. `rArr` Formula of its chloride `= MCl_(x)`
Moles of `MCl_(x) = (0.475)/(12x + 35.5 x) = (0.475)/(47.5 x) = 0.01//x`
Now, `M + (x)/(2)Cl_(2) rarr MCl_(x)`
Initially 0.01/x
Finally `0.01//x xx 12x = 0.12`
