In the given potentiometer circuit, length of the wire AB is 3m and resistance is `R = 4.5 Omega` . The length AC for no deflection in galvanometer is

A

40

B

60

C

80

D

Text Solution

When galvanometer shows zero deflection, current through the main circuit,
,`i=5/(0.5+4.5)=1A`
By applying KVL in the smaller loop
,`i(R_(AC))=3 implies R_(AC)=3 Omega`
Since the resistance per unit length of the potentiometer wire is uniform `therefore AC=AB(R_(AC)/R_(AB))=80 cm`
