A boat, which can travel at a speed of 8 km/h in still water on a lake, is rowing in the flowing water in river. If the stream speed is 3 km/h, how fast the boat can cross a tree on the shore in traveling
upstream ?

In this case the stream is carrying the boat in the same direction in which the boat is trying to move. Hence its speed with respect to the tree is 8 + 3 = 11 km/h.
