In a `DeltaABC` prove that `cotA+cotB+cotC=(a^(2)+b^(2)+c^(2))/(4Delta)`

A

a+b+c

B

`a^(-1)+b^(-1)+c^(-1)`

C

`a^(2)+b^(2)+c^(2)`

D

none of these

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We have,
`4Delta(cotA+cotB+cotC)`
`=2{(2Delta)/(sinA)xxcosA+(2Delta)/(sinB)xxcosB+(2Delta)/(sinC)xxcosC}`
`=2 (bc cos A + ca cos B + ab cos C)` `[becauseDelta=1/2absinC` etc. `]`
`=(b^(2)+c^(2)-a^(2)+c^(2)+a^(2)-b^(2)+a^(2)+b^(2)-c^(2))`
`=a^(2)+b^(2)+c^(2)`
