Which of the following statements about ...

Which of the following statements about the composition of the vapour over an ideal 1: 1 molar mixture of benzene and toluene is correct? Assume that the temperature is constant at `25^@C`. (Given, vapour pressure data at `25^@C`, benzene = 12.8 kPa, toluene = 3.85 kPa)

A

The vapour will contain equal amounts of benzene and toluene.

B

Not enough information is given to make a prediction.

C

The vapour will contain a higher percentage of benzene.

D

The vapour will contain a higher percentage of toluene.

The correct Answer is:
C

`P_("Benzene") = X_("Benzene") P_"Benzene"^@ P_("Toluene") = X_("Toluene") P_"Toluene"^@`
For an ideal 1 : 1 molar mixture of benzene and toluene,
`x_("Benzene") =1/2 and x_("Toluene") =1/2`
`P_("benzene") = 1/2 P_"Benzene"^@ = 1/2 xx12.8kPa = 6.4 kPa`
`P_("Toluene") = 1/2 P_"Toluene"^@=1/2 xx 3.85 kPa = 1.925 kPa`
Thus, the vapour will contain a high percentage of benzene as the partial vapour pressure of benzene is higher as compared to that of toluene.

Which of the following statements about the composition of the vapour over an ideal 1:1 mol mixture of benzene and toluene is correct? Assume that the temperature is constant at 25^(@)C . (Given: vapour pressure Date at 25^(@)C , benzene=12.8 kP, toluene=3.85 kPa)

Which statement about the composition of vapour over an ideal 1 : 1 molar mixture of benzene and toluene is correct ? Assume the temperature is constant at 25^(@)C Vapour pressure data (25^(@)C) : {:("Benzene",75 mm Hg,),("Toluene",22 mm Hg,):}

When 1 mole of benzene is mixed with 1 mole of toluene The vapour will contain: (Given : vapour of benzene = 12.8kPa and vapour pressure of toluene = 3.85 kPa).

Assuming the saturated water vapour to be ideal, find its pressure at the temperature 101.1 ^@C .

A solution at 20^(@)C is composed of 1.5 mol of benzene and 3.5 mol of toluene. If the vapour pressure of pure benzene and pure toluene at this temperature are 74.7 torr and 22.3 torr, respectively, then the total vapour pressure of the solution and the benzene mole fraction in equilibrium with it will be, respectively:
