In a box whose dimensions are `12cm xx 4cm xx 3cm`, how long stick can be placed ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The longest stick that can be placed inside the box is equal to the diagonal of the box.
Diagonal `=sqrt(l^(2)+b^(2)+h^(2))`
where l = length, b = breadth and h = height.
`therefore` The required length of the stick `=sqrt(12^(2)+4^(2)+3^(2))cm`
`= sqrt(144+16+9)cm`
`sqrt(169)=13 cm`
