Show that the tangents to the curve y=7x...

Show that the tangents to the curve `y=7x^3+11`at the points where `x = 2`and `x = 2`are parallel.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Equation of curve
`y = 7x^(3) +11`
` rArr (dy)/(dx) = 21 x^(2)`
Slope of tangent at x = 2
`m_(1) = 21 (2)^(2) = 84`
Slope of tangent at x = - 2
`m_(2)= 21 (-2)^(2)= 84`
` :' m_(1) = m_(2)`
`:.` The tangents of the curve at x = 2 and x = - 2 are parallel.
