Give the relation between the partial pressure of a gas and its mole fraction.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Partial pressure of a gas = mole fraction of the gas X Total pressure of the mixture of gases Eg : Consider A and B in a container which are chemically non reaction.
` therefore ` Partial pressure of A`(P_A) = X_A xx P_T`
Partial pressure of B ` (P_B) = X_B xx P_T`
` X_A = (n_A)/(n_A +n_B) ,X_B =(n_B )/(n_A +n_B )`
` X_A ,X_B` are mole fractions
`P_T =` Total pressure
