With Ammonical `Ag NO (3)` solution :Acethylene gas is passed through ammonical `Ag NO (3)` soluton to form a white precipitate of silver acetylide:
`H = C -= C - H + 2 Ag NO _(3)+ 2 NH _(4) OH to underset( " Silver acetylide") ( Ag - C -= C - Ag ) + 2 NH _(4) NO _(3) + 2 H _(2) O `
With Ammonical `Cu _(2) Cl _(2)` solutions
Acetylene gas is passed through Ammonical cuprous chjlodirde solution to give a red precipate of cuprous acetylide.
`H - C -= C - H + 2 Ag NO _(3) + 2 NH _(4) OH to underset( " Cuprous acetylide" ) ( Cu - C -= C - Cu) + 2 NH _(4) Cl + 2 H _(2) O `
