An elaborate network of filamentous proteinaceous structures present in the cytoplasm is called cytoskeleton. Eukaryotic cells contain three major components of cytoskeleton, microfilaments, intermediate filaments and microtubules. Cytoskeleton is involved in mechanical support, maintenance of cell shape, cell motility, intracellular transport, signaling across the cell and Karyokinesis.
