a. How could you use them to distinguish between samples of metals and non-metals?
b. Assess the usefulness of these tests in distinguishing between metals and non metals.

a. Hammer can be used to test the property of malleability i.e. ability of getting beaten into sheets and the other things can be used to make a circuit using which we can test the property of electrical conductivity.
Metals are malleable and good conductors of electricity, whereas non metals arenon malleable and bad conductors of electricity.
: b. Since most of the metals are hard solids, they can be easily tested with maleability. The soft metals can be tested with conductivity by connecting them in a circuit. Solid non metals are brittle and hence get powdered when hammered and they dont conduct electric current when connected in a circuit.
