You must have been seen tarnished copper vessels being cleaned with lemon or tamarind juice. Explain why those sour substances are effective in cleaning the vessel.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Lemon and tamarind juices are made up of acids (citric acid and tartaric acid). The copper gets tranished due to the formation of copper carbonate and when the juices are added on to the carbonate layer, they react with the carbonate layer and thus help in removal of the tanished layer from the vessel.
