In the experiment "light is essential for photosynthesis" why does the uncovered part of the leaf turn blue-black after putting iodine solution?

Starch is produced in uncovered portion of leaf as it is exposed to sunlight allowing it to undergo photosynthesis, thus starch reacts with iodine and turns blue black colour.
