A body is taken from the centre of the earth to the moon. What will be the changes in the weight of the body?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

1. At the centre of the earth, the weight of the body is zero (g = 0)
2. As the body is moved from centre to the earth surface, its weight increases (due to increase in g).
3. On the Earth.s surface, the weight is maximum.
4. As the body is moved from earth.s surface towards the moon, the height increases and .g. decreases. Hence weight decreases.
5. On moon the value of g is `1//6^(th)` that of the earth. Hence weight of the body is also `1//6^(th)` that on the earth.s surface.
