Work out a cross to find the genotype of a tall pea plant. Name the type of cross.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

To determine the genotype of a tall pea plant, a test cross is made in which the tall pea plant with be crossed with a drawf pea plant.

In case 1. the plant is heterozygous tall and the F ratio between tall and dwarf plants will be 1 : 1. In case 2. the tall plant is homozygous tall and all the offspring will be tall.

Name the type of flower in pea plant.

In peas, tallness is dominant over dwarfness, and red colour of flowers is dominant over the white colour. When a tall plant bearing red flowers was pollinated by a dwarf plant bearing white flowers, the different phenotypic groups were obtained in the progeny in numbers mentioned against them Tall, Red = 138 Tall, White = 132 Dwarf, Red = 136 Dwarf, White = 128 Mention the genotypes of the two parents and of the types of four offspring

Why, in a test cross, did Mendel cross a tall pea plant with a dwarf pea plant only?

A pure dwart plant was subjected to X-ray treatment, which mutated them to reach the height of a pure tall plant. This new plant was crossed with a hybrid tall. What will be the result of progeny?

A dwarf pea plant is treated with gibberellin which makes it tall. This plant is crossed with genetically pure tall plant. Phenotypic ratio in next generation shall be

In monohybrid cross of red and white flower, Mendel got only red flower. On setting the F, plants having red flower he got both plants with red and white flower. Explain the basis of using RR and rr symbols to represent the genotype of plants of parental generation.

With the help of a cross done with garden pea plants, trace the work done by Mendel with a tall and a short plant to arrive at a 3:1 ratio in the F_(2) generation.

A, B,D are three independently assorting genes with their recessive alleles a, b, d respectively. A cross was made between individuals of Aa bb DD genotype with aa bb dd. Explain the type of genotypes of the offspring produced.

A cross was carricd out between a pure bred tall pea plant and a pure bred dwarf pea plant and F_(1) progeny was obtained. Later, the F_(1) progeny was selfed to obtain F_(2) progeny. Answer the following questions : (i) What is the phenotype of the F, progeny and why? (ii) Give the phenotypic ratio of the F_(2) progeny. (iii) Why is the F_(2) progeny different from the F_(1) progeny?

In a cross between plants with purple flowers and plants with white flowers the offsprings of F_(1) generation all had white flowers. When the F_(1) generation was self-crossed, it was observed in the F_(2) generation that out of 100, 75 flowers were white. Make a cross and answer the following : (i) What are the genotypes of the F_(2) progeny? (ii) What is the ratio of 'White : Purple' flowers in the F_(2) generation?
