What is polymerase chain reaction...

What is polymerase chain reaction

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is a technique to amplify specific DNA sequence. Kary MuIIis in 1985 developed this technique.
Steps Involved in PCR PCR occurs in three steps
(i) Denaturation It involves separation of double-stranded DNA at high temperature `(95^(@) C)`. This breaks the hydrogen bonds between nucleotides.
(ii) Annealing The primers anneal to DNA strands at a temperature of `50^(@)` C.
(iii) Extension The enzyme extends the primers to the length of template strands. The cycle is then repeated to increase the number of DNA molecules.
