Ovule is an integumented structure. It is attached to the placenta by a stalk called funicle. The part of funiculus remains attached beyond the hilum alongside ovule body forming a sort of ridge is called raphae. Hilum is a junction between ovule and funicle. Each ovule contains one or two protective envelops called integuments. Micropyle is present at the tip, while chalaza is opposite to the micropylar end representing the basal part of nucellus. The main body of ovule is called nucellus. It have food reserves. Embryo sac or female gametophyte is located inside the ovule. Depending upon the configuration and orientation of the body of ovule in relation to funiculus, there are six types of ovules, i.e. orthotropous, anatropous, hemitropous, campylotropous, amphitropous and circinotropous.
