Sperm is a male, reproductive cell. A sperm consists of. four parts, i.e. head, neck, middle piece and tail. It is covered by a plasma membrane. The head of sperm contains a haploid nucleus, which contains acrosome. Neck harbours a pair of centrioles. The middle piece is cylindrical in human sperm. It contains many mitochondria, coiled round the axial filament, called mitochondrial spiral. The mitochondria provide energy for the movement of the sperm .in .the female genital tract. At the end of the middle piece, there is a ring centriole with unknown function. The entire spermatozoan/ sperm is covered by a plasma membrane. The spermatozoa swim about by vibrating their tail in a fluid medium to fertilise egg.
