Text Solution

Grignard reagent is a polar molecule `overset(delta-)(R)-overset(delta+)(Mg)X`.
So, Grignard reagent are highly reactive and react with water (a good source of proton) to give hydrocarbons.
`RMgX+H_(2)OrarrRH+Mg(OH)X`
Hence, traces of moisture must be avoided during the use of a Grignard reagent.
