Suggest two tests to distinguish between ethanol and phenol.

Ethanol can be distinguished from phenol by the following tests:
(i) Coupling reaction Phenols reacts with diazonium salts in weakly basic solution to form yellow coloured azo dyes but echanol do not react.
(ii) Bromine water test Phenol on reaction with bromine water gives a white ppt. of 2, 4, 6-tribromophenol but ethanol do not.
