A gas is compressed at a constant pressure of `50N//m^(2)` from a volume `10m^(3)` to a volume of `4m^(3)`. 100J of heat is added to the gas then its internal energy is

A

450

B

400

C

350

D

410

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

As volume decreases work is done on the gas and so -ve
W=50 [4-10]
=-300 Joule
Heat supplied, Q=100 Joule
`Q=triangleU+W` (1st Law of thermodynamics)
`triangleU=Q-W`
`=100-(-300)`
=400 Joule.
