A bulb connected in series with a solenoid is lit by a.c. source, Fig. If the soft in core is introduced in the solenoid, will is bulb glow brighter ?

A

The bulb stops glowing

B

The bulk will glow brighter

C

There is no change in glow of bulb

D

The bulb will become dimmer

The correct Answer is:
D

Inductance of a solenoid
`L = (mu_0 N^2 A)/(l)`
`L prop mu_0`
When soft iron core is inserted `mu_0` increases in turn .L., also increases, hence current decreases in the circuit results in dimming of bulb.
