A zener diode having breakdown voltage equal to 15V, is used in a voltage regulator circuit shown in figure. Find the current through the diode.

A

10mA

B

15mA

C

20mA

D

5mA

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Voltage drop across
`1k Omega= V_1=15V`
`V.=(15V)/(1k Omega)=15mA`
Voltage drop across `250 Omega=20-15=5V`
SO current through `Omega=5/20=20mA`
`therefore` current through the zener diode
=20-15=5mA
