Consider a hydrogen-like atom whose energy in nth excited state is given by
`E_(n) = (13.6 Z^(2))/(n^(2))`
When this excited makes a transition from excited state to ground state , most energetic photons have energy
`E_(max) = 52.224 eV`. and least energetic photons have energy
`E_(max) = 1.224 eV`

The correct Answer is:
A

Maximum energy is liberated for transition `E_(n) rarr E_(1)` and minimum energy for `E_(n) rarr E_(n-1)`
Hence `(E_(1))/(n^(2)) - E_(1) = 52.224 eV` and `(E_(1))/(n^(2)) - (E_(1))/((n-1)^(2)) = 1.224 eV rArr E_(1) = -54.4 eV` and `n = 5`
Now `E_(1) = - (13.6Z^(2))/(1^(2)) = - 54.4 eV`. Hence `Z = 2`

To excite the hydrogen atom from its ground state to second excited state…. eV energy is required.

Hydrogen atom from excited state comes to the ground state by emitting a photon of wavelength lamda , then what is the quantum number of excited states ?

Energy of a hydrogen atom with principal quantum number n is shown by E = (-13.6)/(n^(2)) eV . The energy of a photon ejected when the electron jumps from n = 3 state to n = 2 state of hydrogen is approximately.

A hydrogen like atom with atomic number Z is in an excited state of quantum number 2n. It can emit a maximum energy photon of 204 eV. If it makes a transition ot quantum state n, a photon of energy 40.8 eV is emitted. Find n, Z and the ground state energy (in eV) of this atom. Also calculate the minimum energy (in eV) that can be emitted by this atom during de-excitation. Ground state energy of hydrogen atom is – 13. 6 eV.

A hydrogen like atom (atomic number Z) is in a higher excited state of quantum number n. The excited atom can make a transition to the first excited state by successively emitting two photons of energy 10.2 eV and 17.0 eV, respectively. Alternatively, the atom from the same excited state can make a transition to the second excited state by successively emitting two photons of energies 4.25 eV and 5.95 eV, respectively Determine the values of n and Z. (lonization energy of H-atom = 13.6 eV)

An electron in hydrogen atom first jumps from second excited state to first excited state and then from first excited state to ground state. Let the ratio of wavelength, momentum and energy of photons emitted in these two cases be a, b and c respectively, Then
