A carrom board `4ftxx4ft` square has the queen at the centre. The queen hit by the striker moves to the front edge, rebounds and goes in the hole behind the striking line. Find the magnitude of displacement of the queen (a). from the centre to the front edge (b). from the front edge to the hole and (c). from the centre to the hole.

Compare triangle PAQ and ONP
`tan theta=(2-x)/(4)=(x)/(2)rArr4-2x=4x`
`therefore=(4)/(6)=(2)/(3)` ft.
In `DeltaOPN OP=sqrt(ON^(2)+PN^(2))=sqrt(((2)/(3))^(2)+(2)^(2))=sqrt((40)/(9))=(2)/(3)sqrt(10)ft.

The childern are trying to shoot a marble into a marble into a small box using a spring loaded gun that fixed on a table and shoots horizontally from the edge of the table. The centre of the box is a horizontal distance 5m from the edge of the table. The first child compresses the spring a distance 2cm and finds that the marble falls short of its target by a horizontal distance 3m . By what distance x should the second child compress the spring to score a direct hit on the box?

On a smooth carrom board. A coin located at (4,6) is moving in negative y- direction with speed 3m//s is being hit at that point by a striker moving along negative x- axis . The line joining centre of the coin and striker just before the collision is parallel to x- axis. After collision the coin goes into the hole located at origin. Mass of the striker and the coin is equal. Considering the collision to be elastic, find the velocity ( in vector form ) of the stricker before the collision and after the collision.

A thin spherical shell of total mass M and radius R is held fixed. There is a small hole in the shell. A mass m is released from rest a distance R from the hole along a line that passes through the hole and also through the centre of the shell. This mass subsequently moves under the gravitational force of the shell. How long does the mass take to travel from the hole to the point diametrically opposite.

A circular plate of uniform thickness has a diameter fo 56cm. A circular portion of diameter 42 cm is removed from one edge of the plate as shown in figure. Find the position of the centre of mass of the remaining portion.

Water is drained from a vertical cylindrical tank by opening a valve at the base of the tank. It is known that the rate at which the water level drops is proportional to the square root of water depth y , where the constant of proportionality k >0 depends on the acceleration due to gravity and the geometry of the hole. If t is measured in minutes and k=1/(15), then the time to drain the tank if the water is 4 m deep to start with is (a) 30 min (b) 45 min (c) 60 min (d) 80 min

A disc of radius r is cut from a larger disc of radius 4r in such a way that the edge of the hole touches the edge of the disc. The centre of mass of the residual disc will be a distance from centre of larger disc :-

Two fixed, equal, positive charges, each of magnitude 5xx10^-5 coul are located at points A and B separated by a distance of 6m. An equal and opposite charge moves towards them along the line COD, the perpendicular bisector of the line AB. The moving charge, when it reaches the point C at a distance of 4m from O, has a kinetic energy of 4 joules. Calculate the distance of the farthest point D which the negative charge will reach before returning towards C.

A point object is placed on the axis in front of a convex lens of focal length 30 cm. The distance of the object from the lens is 45 cm. If the lens is moved away from object by 1 mm and also the object is moved apart from the line joining the object and optical centre by 1 mm the displacement of the image has magnitude-

The arrangement shown consists of three elements. (i) A thin rod of charge -3.0 mu C that froms a full circule of radius 6.0 cm . (ii) A second thin rod of charge 2.0 mu C that forms a circular are of radius 4.0 cm and concentric with the full circle, subtending an angle of 90^(@) at the centre of the full circle. (iii) an electric dipole with a dipole moment that is perpendicular to a radial line and has magnitude 1.28xx10^(-21) C-m . Find the net electric potential in volts at the centre.

There is a hole in the middle of a small thin circular converging lens of focal length f=4 cm . The diameter of the hole is half the aperture diameter of lens. There is a point like light source A=9 cm from a wall. Where should the lens be placed from object (in cm) in order to get a single circular illuminated spot on the wall which also has a sharp edge ?
