Consider the following reaction which proceeds in a closed vessel.
` 3X to 2Y +Z `
The rate of disappearance of `X,-(Delta [X])/(Delta t)` is found to be 0.075 mol
` L^(-) s^(-)` calculate `(Delta [y])/(Delta t) and ( Delta [Z])/( Delta t)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
`0.05 mol L^(-) s^(-) , 0.025 mol L^(-) s^(-1)`

The reaction` 3X to 2 Y+Z` can be written as:
` X to (2)/(3) Y + 1/3 Z`
since ` (- Delta [X])/( Delta t) = 0.075 mol^(-1) s^(-1) , ` we have ` (Delta [Y])/( Delta t)`
` =2/3 xx 0.075 = 0.05 mol L^(-1) s^(-1)`
` ( Delta [Z])/(Delta t) = 1/3 xx 0.075 = 0.025 mol L^(-1) s^(-1)`
