A body travels along a straight line for...

A body travels along a straight line for the first half of the total time with a constant speed of ` 20 m s^(-1)` and for the second half of the total time with a constant speed of `30 m s^(-1)` . Find the average speed of the body.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let t be the time, for which the body travels.
Distance covered in the first half of the time,
`S_(1)=20xxt/2=10t`.
And the distance covered in the second half of the time
`S_(2)=30xxt/2=15t`
Average speed = `("total distance")/("total time")=(15t+10t)/t=25ms^(-1)`
