What is BOD ?...

What is BOD ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

BOD refers to Biological Oxygen Demand. It is the oxygen demand in miligram in one litre of water at `20^@ `C by the microorganisms to metabolise organic waste. During the secondary treatment of primary effluents, the BOD level decreases because useful microbes consume a major part of the organic matter. Reduction in the organic matter leads to the lowering of BOD.
