Explanation

It is the wearing out or reduction of the amount of ozone in the stratosphere. A number of pollutants enter into the stratosphere and deplete the ozone layer. These include `CFC_s, CH_4 and N_2O. CFC_s` are widely used as refrigerants.when they are discharged in the lower part of atmosphere, they move upward and reach the stratosphere. In stratosphere, UV-rays act on them releasing CI atoms. CI degrades ozone, releasing molecular oxygen. CI atmos are not consumed in the reaction. Hence, once `CFC_s` are added to the stratosphere they have permanent and continuous effects on ozone levels.
