What is genetic drift?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Genetic Drift. Random changes in gene frequencies in a small population occurring by chance rather than by natural selection leading to fixation of certain alieles and others being lost altogether.
Significance in Evolution. Most interbreeding animal population are small. So genetic drift helps the populations to become different because of the possibility that each population fixes different genotypes by chance.
