How is PCR used to detect gene mutation in case of suspected cancer patients?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

PCR technique involves selective amplification of a specific region of DNA molecule. In cancer patients, the normal proto-oncogenes mutate into oncogenes, the cancer causing genes. The PCR is used to detect the presence of a specific mutation that is responsible for causing cancer before the actual onset of the disease.
