Explain how recombinant hirudin is produced.

Production of Hirudin. Hirudin is a protein that prevents blood clotting. The gene encoding hirudin was chemically synthesized. This gene was then transferred into Brassica napus where hirudin accumulates in the seeds. The hirudin is purified and used as medicine.
