Explain how tolerance to enviromental factors determines distribution of species.

Range of tolerance. Biological species can show a range of tolerance to environmental factors. These factors show variation in their effects and any one which is present in least amount may become limiting. The response of an organism to a range of gradient of a single environmental factor such as temperature, sunlight or nutrient concentration forms a bell shaped curve as shown in figure.
