Sulphide ores are concentrated by froth floatation process.

This method is used for the concentration of sulphide ores like copper pyrites, `CuFeS_(2)`, copper glance, `Cu_(2)S`, zinc blende or sphalerite, ZnS etc.
Principle : This method is based on the principle that particles of sulphide ore become wet by oils while the gangue particles are wetted by water
Procedure : In this method, a suspension of powdered ore is made with water. To it collectors and front stabilisers are added. Collectors (e.g., pine oil, fatty acids, xanthates, etc.) enhance non-wettability of the mineral particles and froth stabilisers ieg., cresols, aniline) stabilise the froth.
A rotating paddle agitates the mixture and draws air in it. As a result, froth is formed which carries the mineral particles. The froth is light and is skimmed off. It is then dried for recovery of the ore particles.
