The product obtained from blast furanace is pig iron. It contains about 4% carbon and many impurities in smaller amounts (e.g., S, P, Si, Mn). Cast iron is made by melting pig iron with scrap iron and coke using hot blast of air. It has slightly lower carbon content (about 3%).
