Explain liquation process for the refining of metals.

Metals with low melting points like Bi, Sn, Hg, Pb etc., are purified by this method. For this purposes, a sloping hearth furnace is used. The metal is placed at the mouth of the furnace and heated gently. The metal flows down the hearth while impurities are left behind on the hearth.
