The chlorofluoro compounds of methane and ethane are collectively known as freon. These are unreactive, and is stable even under high temperature and pressure. Preparation : When carbon tetrachloride is treated with antimony fluoride in the presence of antimony pentachloride, freon is formed.

Freon -12 It is also known as freon-12.
