The polymerisation of ethene takes place in the presence of free radical, i.e., peroxide, Themechanism. of polymerisation of ethene takes place in three steps.
Step I : Chain initiation step :
This step involves the formation and addition of free radical to the ethene molecule.

Step II : Chain propagating step : In this step, free radical reacts with another molecule of ethene. The formation of bigger size free radical chain takes place.

Step III : Chain terminating step : In this step, formation of polymerised product·takes place.
