It is polyhydroxy butyrate - co-`beta`- hydroxy valerate. It is copolymer of 3-hydroxybutanoic acid and 3-hydroxy pentanoic acid. These monomers are connected by ester linkage.

Uses : It is used in specially packaging orthopaedic devices, and in controlled drugs release. PHBV undergoes bacterial degradation in the environment.
